Love knows no boundaries, nor does it take politics into account. The proof is in a love story between an Israeli youth and a Palestinian girl born in Syria.
The story began more than two years ago in Tunisia when Baligh Jubara from the town of Taybeh in central Israel made the acquaintance of Reem Helu, a Palestinian girl born in Syria. As it happens, it was love at first sight for Baligh and Reem. But the problem lay in Baligh being an Arab citizen from Israel who holds Israeli citizenship while Reem is a Palestinian born in Syria with no documents that entitle her to enter the Jewish state.
Lovestruck Baligh wasted no time however and proceeded to submit a request to the Israeli Interior Ministry to allow him to bring his Syrian bride into Israel for her wedding ceremony.
Not surprisingly, the Israeli Interior Ministry rejected Baligh's request, saying that it couldn't allow a citizen of an enemy country entrance into Israel, as would be the case with Syrian-born Reem.
After all Baligh's efforts with the Israeli Interior Ministry were met with failure, the frustrated bridegroom turned to the Israeli parliament, requesting the assistance of Ahmed Tibi, a fellow townsman and parliament member, who gave his all for the cause of the young couple.
Tibi's request was also initially rejected by the Interior Ministry, but the Arab deputy--known for his determination and perseverance--left no stone unturned until receiving a positive response just one day before the wedding was scheduled.
Tibi reportedly presented the issue twice to the Interior Ministry, in addition to bringing the matter before Parliament, according to Taybeh Net website.
Baligh's father warmly thanked the Arab deputy for his help, saying: “We shall not forget this good deed on the part of the sincere son of our town Ahmed Tibi who has accustomed the people to his good deeds and services”.
Tibi has apparently had some prior experience in bringing joy to newlyweds. Two years ago, he succeeded at the last moment in bringing a bridegroom from Bethlehem to Nazareth after much effort.
