التلخيص مهارة مهمة جدا في حل الواجبات الجامعية (TMAs)
هذه خطوات سهلة لتلخيص موضوع معين
حتى تلغى الفكرة السائدة أن التلخيص هو اختيار بعض الجمل من النص الأصلي
بل هو عبارة عن قراءة و استيعاب النص الأصلي وكتابة الأفكار الرئيسة والمهمة بكلماتنا الخاصة

How to Summarize?
كيف تلخّص ؟
A summary is a shorter version of a longer piece of writing. The summary captures all the most important parts of the original, but expresses them in a [much] shorter space.
الملخص هو نسخة أقصر من قطعة كتابية أطول. الخلاصة تحوي كلّ الأجزاء الأكثر أهمية من النص الأصلي، لكن تظهرهم في مكان أقصر .

Summarizing exercises are usually set to test your understanding of the original, and your ability to re-state its main purpose.
تمارين التلخيص عادة تكون لاختبار فهمك للنص الأصلي، وقدرتك لإعادة ذكر غرضه الرئيسي.

Summarizing is also a useful skill when gathering information or doing research.
التلخيص أيضا مهارة مفيدة عند جمع المعلومات أو إجراء بحث.

The summary should be expressed - as far as possible - in your own words. It's not enough to merely copy out parts of the original.
الخلاصة يجب أن تُبدي - بقدر الإمكان - في كلماتك الخاصة. ليس كافياً مجرّد النسخ من الأجزاء الأصلية .

The question will usually set a maximum number of words. If not, aim for something like one tenth of the original. [A summary which was half the length of the original would not be a summary.]
السؤال سيضع عادة العدد الأقصى من الكلمات. إن لم يكن يهدف إلى شيء مثل عُشر النص الأصلي. }أي أن الخلاصة التي كانت نصف طول النص الأصلي لن تكون خلاصة{.

Read the original quickly, and try to understand its main subject or purpose.
اقرأ النص الأصلي بسرعة، وحاول أن تفهم موضوعه الرئيسي أو غرضه.

Then you will need to read it again to understand it in more detail.
ثمّ أنت ستحتاج لقراءته ثانية لفهمه في تفصيل أكثر.

Underline or make a marginal note of the main issues. Use a highlighter if this helps.
أكّد أو اكتب ملاحظة هامشية من القضايا الرئيسية. استعمل ال highlighter إذا كان هذا يساعد.

Look up any words or concepts you don't know, so that you understand the author's sentences and how they relate to each other.
انظر للكلمات أو المفاهيم التي لا تعرف لكي تفهم جُمل المؤلف وكيف يتعلقون بعضهم ببعض.

Work through the text to identify its main sections or arguments. These might be expressed as paragraphs or web pages.
اعمل خلال النصّ لتمييز أقسامه الرئيسية أو حججه. هذه قد تبدو كفقرات أو صفحات ويب.

Remember that the purpose [and definition] of a paragraph is that it deals with one issue or topic.
تذكّر بأنّ الغرض من الفقرة بأنّها تتعامل مع قضية واحدة أو موضوع واحد .

Draw up a list of the topics - or make a diagram. [A simple picture of boxes or a spider diagram can often be helpful.]
أعدد قائمة من المواضيع - أو اصنع تخطيط. [أي صورة بسيطة من الصناديق أو تخطيط عنكبوتي يمكن أن يكون مساعد في أغلب الأحيان. ]

Write a one or two-sentence account of each section you identify. Focus your attention on the main point. Leave out any illustrative examples.
إكتب جملة أو جملتين لكلّ قسم قرأته . ركّز انتباهك على النقطة الرئيسية. احذف أيّ أمثلة إيضاحية.

Write a sentence which states the central idea of the original text.
اكتب جملة تذكرك بالفكرة الرئيسية للنصّ الأصلي.

Use this as the starting point for writing a paragraph which combines all the points you have made.
استعمل هذه كنقطة البداية لكتابة الفقرة التي تدمج كلّ النقاط التي كتبتها .

The final summary should concisely and accurately capture the central meaning of the original.
الخلاصة النهائية يجب أن تكون بشكل مصغّر وتحوي المعنى الرئيسي للنص الأصلي .

Remember that it must be in your own words. By writing in this way, you help to re-create the meaning of the original in a way which makes sense for you.
تذكّر بأنّه يجب أن يكون في كلماتك الخاصة... بالكتابة بهذه الطريقة تساعد لإعادة إنشاء معنى النص الأصلي بطريقة ما , تجعله مفهوما بالنسبة لك .
